Ep 12: The Practice of Showing up with Lena Waithe

There comes a moment in our lives when we have to decide—how we’re going to show up in the world.

For ‪@LauraScarpatiLA‬ that moment came after getting run over by a car while pregnant. She had a choice: to stay in the trauma and victimhood, or to choose the light, to find joy in the recovery, and to lean into purpose.

Lena Waithe knows something about that kind of reckoning too. She’s been on her own journey—unpacking old patterns, confronting her personhood, and as she puts it, she is still very much in process.

One of the tools Lena leans on is meditation. We’ve talked about meditation before on this podcast, but hearing Lena speak so candidly about her practice helps take the pressure off. Because as she explains, if we’re waiting for the world to get quiet before we get still, we’ll be waiting forever.

Lena’s poetry is a mirror. Asking us to look inside ourselves. Giving us permission to not have all the answers. And offering up her signature mix of wisdom, humor, and heart.
