New York, Susquehanna & Western's two Utica NY engines were on the fritz, what to do? Why contact the good folks at Utica-based Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern and borrow one! Not just any engine either, No. 2456, an ALCo C425, built in October 1964 for the Erie-Lackawanna.
So it was that on June 26, 2025, the old ALCo, a veteran of the Utica branch in bygone E-L days, showed the younger NYS&W engines a thing or two by stepping up to the plate to handle chores on the Susquehanna's Utica branch.
This video catches No. 2456 southbound in Chadwicks, Clayville, Cassville and Paris Station. After tending to customers in Sangerfield, next up are northbound views of the fourteen-car freight on its return to Utica as it passes Seward Ave and then heads down street-running on Schuyler Street.
