The US has warned Pretoria not to make a G20 declaration without its presence at the G20 Leaders' Summit.
The US has agreed its chargé d'affaires in Pretoria will attend the declaration handover ceremony as a formality.
But South African presidential spokseperson Vincent Magwenya said on X that President Cyril Ramaphosa will not hand over the G20 Presidency to a chargé d'affaires after the US reiterated that it would not attend any G20 discussions this weekend.
Africa's first G20 Summit will include representatives of 42 countries.
