Bahraoui)
Redouane Hddadou
The writer, researcher, and historian Redouane Haddadou (born 1941)
is a pivotal and authoritative figure in the cultural landscape of Tetouan
and Northern Morocco, distinguished for his foundational role in
documenting and preserving the memory of the national contemporary
theatre movement in the region. Haddadou, who
holds a professorship in Arabic Language and
Literature and worked as a teacher, successfully
combined creative practice—acting, directing, and
writing important plays like The Earth and the
Olives and Waiting for the Time of Madness (with
his complete theatrical works compiled in two
volumes in 2020)—with rigorous critical
documentation, publishing widely in notable Arab
and Moroccan cultural supplements like Al-Adab
and Al-Bayan. He is particularly renowned for his foundational
documentary studies that transcend questions of origin to address the
core identity of regional performance forms, exemplified by his works
on The Theatre of Abdelkhalek Torres and The Theatrical Movement
in the City of Tangier, which have earned him the title of "the historian
and the multifaceted one".
Hassan Bahraoui:
Distinguished Moroccan academic, critic, and novelist Dr. Hassan
Bahraoui is a central figure in modern Moroccan intellectual life,
currently serving as a Full Professor at Mohammed V University in
Rabat and holding a State Doctorate in Comparative Literature; his
scholarship is marked by disciplinary versatility, ranging from
structural analysis in narrative, exemplified by his seminal work The
Structure of the Novelistic Form (1990), to rigorous socio-cultural
research into Moroccan cultural heritage,
including studies on Al-Ayta and the origins
of theatre. As a prolific writer, Dr. Bahraoui
has significantly contributed to critical
thought, translation, and creative writing,
with recent satirical novels like The Return
of the Deceased (2019) showcasing his
creative range; most recently, he has
cemented his role as a historian of
Moroccan culture with the book Pioneers
of Moroccan Theatre, which provides
essential biographical and critical portraits
of the key directors, actors, and critics who
shaped the national theatrical landscape
from the mid-20th century onward.

15:30- 16:30 | Master Class with Saleh Zamannan (Heritage in
Motion: Reviving Saudi Traditions in the Age of Vision 2030)
Saleh Zamanan: A prolific voice of our time (born 1985), has crafted
over 10 poetry and drama volumes, more than 16 plays, and garnered
prestigious awards for his works translated into 6 languages. Saleh
Zamanan is a poet and playwright who blends poetry and theater in a
way that is both rebellious and captivating. He combines the raw energy
of free verse with the dramatic elements of theater to create a unique
and powerful voice in Saudi Arabian literature. Zamanan's script and
song lyrics transport readers/audiences to vast, imaginative landscapes.
He paints pictures with words, evoking the whispers of eternity, the
sounds of Arabian Desert, and the ancient chants of shepherds. His
script delves into themes of myth, fertility, and the enduring human
spirit. Zamanan's uniqueness goes beyond his style. He draws
inspiration from sources different from most other Saudi Arabian poets.
This fresh perspective allows him to explore themes and emotions in
new and thought-provoking ways. While his work may not be easily
accessible to all, it offers a rewarding experience for those willing to
delve deeper. Deeply rooted in his heritage, Zamanan's historical drama
provides a nuanced and authentic exploration of Najd culture, enriching
the Saudi literary scene.
