Following wartime damage to The Temple Church, the first service with the new full choir was held on 30th October 1955 under the direction of Sir George Thalben-Ball.
“Doctor” (as he was generally known by his colleagues) was Organist and Director of the Temple Church Choir, a post he held for nearly 60 years, until his retirement in 1982
A celebration service of Choral Mattins was held on Sunday 26th October 2025, marking the 70th Anniversary of the reforming of the Choir.
The service was taken by Robin Griffith-Jones (The Reverend & Valiant Master of the Temple at the Temple Church). During the service, he presented Robin Fairhurst (The First Head Chorister), on behalf of his fellow choristers, with a copy of the 1956 Temple Psalter produced by Dr George Thalben-Ball.
