A Look at the NEW Crows Nest Sydney Metro Station - OPENING SOON!

On 26th May 2024, Sydney Metro's new Crows Nest Station had an open day providing a chance for the local community to look around it before the Metro's extension to Sydenham opens later this year. Since I was in the area, I decided to take a look at the station myself, and see how it will shape the next chapter in Sydney's rail development!

Join me as I explore the station in depth, and interview those involved with its design and construction, hoping to not only highlight the amazing architecture, but also the effort that went into it, and the transformational benefit it will achieve for the local community and wider network.

More than 82,000 tonnes of concrete poured - enough to fill more than 13 Olympic swimming pools

Low carbon concrete used, meaning 60% reduction in cement used in the concrete manufacturing process without impacting performance.

11,360 tonnes of steel reinforcement used for concrete structures such as floors, walls, columns, and lift shafts

167 concrete beams weighing up to 70 tonnes have been installed across the station

220 pre-cast brick facade panels installed around the station perimiter, with the largest panels weighing 13 tonnes and holding up to 1,400 bricks

126,000 bricks hand laid to achieve the unique exterior wall design

More than 17 kilometres of underground services installed within the station box and surrounding streets

4,000 of 9,845 hand cut pavers laid, covering 2,200 square metres of internal floor space - enough to cover more than 10 tennis courts

More than 6,101 tonnes of construction waste recycled

More than 75% of power sourced from renewable or green energy sources

90% Australian steel sourced with 75% of all steel used coming from recycled steel

Potable water consumption reduced by 6000 kilolitres
