How To Make A T-Shirt! | Get Thready With Me #1

Learn how to DIY a t-shirt from scratch using an old top as a pattern!
(It can be any kind of t-shirt, I just wanted to make mine a tight-fitting crop top.) NOTE: Use super-stretchy t-shirt/jersey material, or something that's really similar to the shirt you are copying.

I have started a new Youtube Series called Get Sewing With Me - it's like Get Ready With Me but better ;) (and don't worry, Make Thrift Buy isn't going anywhere!)

In my spare time, I do a lot of sewing which I don't film either because I don't have a specific tutorial in mind, or it might require a bit of specialized equipment that most people don't own. But I thought that it would be cool to start filming some of these things that I make, because it could still help inspire your own sewing projects, show you some tips and tricks, or give you ideas for equipment you might want to get in the future! (And of course if you're a more intermediate-advanced sewer, then you could definitely use this as a tutorial!)


Good suggestions from the comments to improve on my tutorial:
LaBouilloireNoire: "Sew your sleeves into your arm holes first pinning the center of your sleeve to your upper shirt seam. Then fold your shirt in half right sides together and sew from your sleeve hem down your sides to your shirt hem. It will lessen the amount of sewing you do as you won't have to close up your sleeves first before sewing them in and it will make your sleeves sit more comfortably because the seams for your sleeves meet up perfectly to your side seams."

Alexa Rosalia: "Something you might want to try is using tissue paper instead of lined paper to keep the fabric from warping. Since the tissue paper is thinner, it's a lot easier to rip."
oamei: "Tissue paper can be ok but I find that it tends to get caught under the stitches and be a pain to get out, so I use stitch-n-tear (from spotlight) instead because its similar to interfacing (material wise), cheap, thicker and gives a clean tear :) "
I've also heard that toilet paper can be used...

It's also a good idea to stretch the fabric while sewing if using a zig-zag stitch (particularly if you're not using super-stretchy t-shirt material, and particularly around the hem on the bottom of the top if you're doing a tight-fitting crop top!)

If you have a better/more professional/easier way of doing something in my tutorial, let me know! As much as I like to teach, I also love to learn from you guys.
