Born into a well-to-do family, Chingten seemed to have everything going for him. His father was a respected government officer, and he studied in a good school. But when his parents divorced while he was still very young, his life took a painful turn. Both parents passed away not long after, and Chingten was raised by his uncle and aunt. Despite the stability they tried to provide, he drifted into bad company.

What started as curiosity soon became full-blown addiction. Chingten dropped out of school, got entangled in drugs, and began living a reckless life of crime. He was arrested multiple times, landing in jail six times. He was involved in drug possession, bike thefts, and running with anti-social elements across Assam and Nagaland.

But it was during his sixth jail term that everything changed. In his prison cell, missionaries handed him a Bible. With nothing else to do, he began reading it. Slowly, the words of Scripture pierced his heart, and for the first time, he encountered the love and grace of Jesus Christ. That encounter set him free from the chains of addiction and gave him a new identity and purpose.

Today, Chingten has been living drug-free for over 8 years. He is an active member of his church, sharing his testimony to inspire and warn young people about the destructive path of drugs. His story is one of brokenness transformed into hope—a living proof that no one is too far gone for God’s grace.
