Flip through “KITTY CAT” fabric trifold junk journal

Junk journal “KITTY CAT” is approximately 24 x 18 x 6 cm. (9.5 x 7 x 2.36 inch)

A journal for cat lovers! I created this journal with lots of space to journal and keep safe your special pictures of your cat!

This chunky journal has a fabric trifold softcover and a blind binding. For the outside cover I used upholstery jacquard fabric embellished with dark green lace. The focal image on the frontcover is a cat image on fabric. It’s layered on green cotton fabric with cotton pads in-between to give it a soft and squishy feel. Around the focal image I hand stitched bronze metal beads and a trim with embroidery floss. On the backside I created a belly band with black cotton twine and a bronze metal ornament in-between (on both sides). It holds a notebook with a large black cat image on the frond and is filled with blank pages for extra journaling space and the upholstery jacquard fabric on the spine and closes with black cotton cords wit a bronze metal bead at the ends. On the inside of the journal the belly holds a writing board which I created with the frontcover of a book with cat drawings by Francien van Westering.

The front inside cover is green cotton fabric and has a double pocket (acetate hand stitched to jacquard fabric ). The backside is a gorgeous piece of vintage needlework showing 3 cats and flowers. A large bronze safety pin with bronze charms and a genuine cat’s eye bead is attached to the green lace in the corner.

The closure of the journal is a removable double knotted black cotton cord with small bronze bells and 2 black cat beads at each end. It is attached to a beautiful vintage mother of pearl button on the frontcover.

It has approximately 288 pages (3 signatures). Each signature has a page fabric page tab embellished with a coffee dyed lace piece with a cat and a bulb pin with a bronze charm.

The journal has kind of a grungy feel with with lots of texture and layering. I used many different types of paper for the pages, such as coffee dyed paper with distressed and stamped edges, color book pages, vellum, vintage glassine, antique atlas pages, antique music sheets, different types of handmade Mulberry paper, antique Cinnabar rice paper, cicade paper, pages from vintage cat books, antique book pages, lined paper, vintage air mail paper.

Although the journal is heavily embellished, there is lots of space for journaling. Throughout the journal there are bellybands, tuck spots and pockets, a lace pocket embellished with hand stitched embroidery floss and bronze metal beads and a bronze charm, flip-up glassine envelope, embellished with with fabric, trims, antique book page, cat images, cat postal stamps, wax seal of a cat paw print, stenciling and stamping. They are filled with ephemera (coffee dyed journal cards, some with embellished tabs, 3 journal card with original pen drawings of a cat, book pages, images and poems from cat books, vintage memorie cards)

I collected so much “Cat” material to create this journal, and since I have so much left, I carefully curated 6 Cat themed junk journal kits.

There are 3 kits with bronze charms and 3 with silver charms charms (different charms in each kit)
Each kit contains 65 pieces, however they are all different because I used actual pages and images from vintage art books. I left he vintage book pages with a lot of cat images, as much as possible as a double page, so you can use them as pages in your journal or you can fussy cut the cat images.
