For the past few days, Afghanistan has suddenly started trending on social media. The reason? The visit of the Taliban government’s Acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, to India. While many discussions emerged during this visit, one particular detail stood out—he went to a town in Uttar Pradesh called Deoband, where a massive crowd welcomed him.

But what exactly is the connection between Deoband and the Taliban? And even more importantly, what is so special about Deoband in the first place?
In this episode of Padhaku Nitin, we asked these very questions to Asad Mirza, author of the book Demystifying Madrasah And Deobandi Islam. Asad Sahab has worked with Khaleej Times in Dubai and BBC Urdu. And in this episode, we discuss with him Deoband, the form of Islam that developed there, and its connection to the Taliban.
