1. Digital Product Passport Pilot for the Construction Sector - Magdalena Pyszkowski
Market Requirements Met:
This pilot addresses the growing market demand for structured, interoperable, and trustworthy product information in the building sector. It supports compliance with upcoming Digital Product Passport (DPP) legislation under the EU Green Deal, and aligns with the use of open BIM standards and methodologies mandated or expected in many construction workflows.
Use Case Demonstration:
The pilot shows how DPPs can be realized in practice using openBIM and GS1 standards, with example products from Knauf (insulation), Wavin (pipes) and Lignum (timber elements).
2. From EPD to DPP: Integrating Environmental Product Declarations into openBIM for Building LCA - Hansueli Schmid
The integration of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) into Digital Product Passports (DPPs) is becoming a central enabler of sustainable design in the construction sector. Driven by new EU regulations (CPR, ESPR, CSRD), there is a growing requirement for structured, machine-readable, and verifiable environmental data that can flow from product level to whole-building assessment.
Building on SN EN 15804, bSDD, and Product Data Templates (PDTs), we present a modular architecture that separates product, manufacturer, and LCA data while enabling traceability through unique IDs and APIs. The approach supports both generic and product-specific data and allows integration into LCA tools and digital building logbooks.
The presentation demonstrates:
how structured EPD data (e.g., CO₂ impact per module) is stored separately and referenced from BIM elements,
how this enables lifecycle-based decision-making already in early planning stages (variant analysis, CO₂ targets),
and how it meets the upcoming digital requirements of EU regulations while being applicable to national infrastructures (e.g., in Switzerland via KBOB, SIA, or Lignumdata).
This solution enables scalable, automated sustainability assessments that align with openBIM principles and regulatory demands, supporting circular and climate-neutral construction.
