අරන්කැලේ පුරාවිද්‍යා ස්ථානය - Arankele Archaeological Site

අරන්කැලේ කියන්නේ පුරාණ භික්ෂුන් වහන්සේලා බණභාවනා කරමින් මානසික විමුක්තිය සොයාගිය ආරණ්‍ය සේනාසනයක්. පුරාවිද්‍යාඥයන් පධානඝර ආරණ්‍ය නමින්ද මෙම සෙනසුන් හඳුන්වනවා. එයට හේතුව පධානඝර හෙවත් පියන්ගල් නම් ගොඩනැගිලි විශේෂය මෙහි බහුලව දක්නට ලැබීමයි.

පධානඝර ආරණ්‍ය කුරුණෑගල දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ නාගොල්ල, මාලිගාතැන්න වැනි ස්ථානවලින්ද හමුවී තිබෙනවා. අනුරාධපුර බටහිර ආරාම, මිහින්තලේ කලුදිය පොකුණ, කැකිරාවේ රිටිගල සහ මානාකන්ද, අම්පාර රජගල, බලංගොඩ බුදුගල වැනි ස්ථානවලත් මෙවැනි ආරණ්‍ය පිහිටා තිබෙනවා.

Arankele Archaeological Site

Arankele is a forest settlement where ancient monks sought mental liberation by meditating. Archaeologists also call this settlement the Padahangara Forest. This is because the type of building called Padahangara or Piyangal is commonly found here.

Padahangara forests have also been found in places like Nagolla and Maligathenna in Kurunegala district. Such forests are also found in places like Anuradhapura Western Monastery, Kaludiya Pokuna in Mihintale, Ritigala and Manakanda in Kekirawa, Rajagala in Ampara, and Budugala in Balangoda.

How to get here?

From Kurunegala on the Dambulla road, reach Ibbagamuwa, which is 20 km away, and from there, reach Godagala junction, which is 8 km away on the Polpithigama road, and from there, travel 3.5 km on the side road leading to Bannakgama to reach the ruins of Arankele.

Adjacent to the ruins, there is the Arantele Maliyadeva Arahatta Senasana, where monks still practice their religion. It belongs to the Ganewatta Divisional Secretariat Division. The surrounding area is a beautiful place with fields and forests. This is a great day trip from Colombo. Arankele. Apart from the forest, there are cave temples with inscriptions such as Ranagirimada and Hipawwa.
