जन्माष्टमी पर्व को भगवान श्री कृष्ण के जन्मदिन के रूप में मनाया जाता है। यह पर्व पूरी दुनिया में पूर्ण श्रद्धा के साथ मनाया जाता है। जन्माष्टमी को भारत में ही नहीं, बल्कि विदेशों में बसे भारतीय भी पूरे विश्वास व उल्लास से मनाते हैं। श्री कृष्ण युगों-युगों से हमारी आस्था के केंद्र रहे हैं। वे कभी यशोदा मैया के लाल होते हैं, तो कभी ब्रज के नटखट कान्हा।

श्री कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी के दिन मंदिरों को खासतौर पर सजाया जाता है। जन्माष्टमी पर पूरे दिन व्रत का विधान है। जन्माष्टमी पर सभी 12 बजे तक व्रत रखते हैं। इस दिन मंदिरों में झांकियां सजाई जाती हैं और भगवान श्रीकृष्ण को झूला झुलाया जाता है और रासलीला का आयोजन होता है।

 
Krishna Janmashtami, also known simply as Janmashtami or Gokulashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu.It is observed according to the Hindu lunisolar calendar, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in Shraavana or Bhadrapad.

Hindus celebrate Janmashtami by fasting, singing, praying together, preparing and sharing special food, night vigils, and visiting Krishna or Vishnu temples. Major Krishna temples organize recitation of ‘'Bhagavata Purana and Bhagavad Gita. Many communities organize dance-drama events called Rasa Lila or Krishna Lila. The tradition of Rasa Lila is particularly popular in the Mathura region, in northeastern states of India such as Manipur and Assam, and in parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. It is acted out by numerous teams of amateur artists, cheered on by their local communities, and these drama-dance plays begin a few days before each Janmashtami.
