New Years Eve in suburbia Reykjavík, Iceland

This is a 30 minute 4K un-cut recording of how new years eve looked in Iceland, in 2020. This is no special location, just a typical suburbian neighbourhood in which I happen to live in. The recording starts at 25 minutes prior to midnight, year 2020 and ends at five minutes past midnight, year 2021. (due to 30-minute recording limit of camera). I decided to record this for documentation, for remembering how it use to be. Because even though I spent a good amount of money on fireworks this year I believe they are an anachronism, an error in time, out of sync with our environmental goals to reduce emissions. Icelandic air quality always hits an all-time low during new-years eve, and a few years ago it became so bad we were technically the most polluted city in the world, which is not something to brag about in a country that is known for clean air. The reason why I bought fireworks despite all this? We have a tendency to try and make our children live out our nostalgias. I have a 7 year old boy and somehow I think he's like what I use to be when I was 7 years old, but I think he'd be just fine watching all the other pyromaniacs. My 11 year old daughter thankfully is fully aware of the consequences of these fireworks and was slightly angry at her father for buying more pollution. Another reason Icelanders buy fireworks is in support for the Search & Rescue squads of Iceland. They are highly trained VOLUNTEERS who rely on fireworks sales to buy equipment and housing for their crucial operation as they get no money from the government, which is also an error in time that needs to get fixed.

Anyhow, at ~ 25:00 in the video is when the clock turns midnight and we reach the peak of fireworks.

This was shot on Canon EOS R6 in 4K 25fps C-Log and corrected in Adobe Premiere. Lens used was Canon EF 16-35/4L IS and sound was via Sennheiser MKE-600 shotgun mic connected to the mic input of the camera.
