We welcome this highly optioned last of the non-hybrid Porsche 911 Carrera GTS ever to be produced to the channel for a comprehensive review. This is the review to watch if you want to spec or buy one. Jeff and I covered it all, from a POV launch and drive, to the exterior, interior, technology, costs for the options, pros and cons of the GTS vs GT3, difficulty in getting an allocation, and more.
Now we know Porsche took some heat when they got rid of the legendary 3.8 naturally aspired flat-six so common in the Porsche 911 for years. They did this in the 991.2 generation, the generation before the 992 presented here. In fact, I was not in the camp at the time that turbo-charging and dropping the car down to 3.0 liters was the way to go. But, after experiencing the 991.2 Porsche 911 Carerra 4S, I have changed my mind.
The reality is guys, as a driver, the torque curve of the new 3.0-liter turbo-engine essentially allows you the driver to enjoy a max 420 + foot-pounds of torque from 2,300 RPMs all the way to the mid 6,000 RPM range. Thus, you have tremendously more useable and virtually instant power everywhere for all practical daily driving and track-oriented uses. And somehow this car can get 30 miles to a gallon when taking it easy on the highway. Totally voodoo technology from Porsche!
In this 2023 911 Carrera GTS review, I speak about my honest options for both the PDK automatic transmission and the 7-speed manual. My thoughts are clear, in that I would recommend the manual for anything other than a GT car, unless you plan to daily drive the car. If you do plan to track your 911 or Cayman, spec the PDK and the carbon sport seats. Otherwise, stick with the manual and the incredible 18-way adjustable sports seats. Since Jeff does light track work and does not daily the car, the spec with PDK and buckets was perfect for him.
Now let's take a moment to discuss the value proposition of this exact car and other similar equipped Porsche 911 GTS models. The fact is this car starts around $150,000 before tax, titling, and dealer fees. But, once you start ticking options, good luck keeping it under $200k. Jeff and I discuss the vale proposition, discuss the build, look at the window sticker, and provide our thoughts here.
Beyond all that I have already said, we really love the look of the 992 Porsche. They really designed a beautiful Carrera GTS that caters to the historical past while looking modern and sporty. Really, inside and out, this Carrera just hits in my eyes. Definitely got all the right looks when I was driving here too, especially with the roof open and windows down. It definitely makes you feel like "I've Made It."
I really hope you all enjoy our 2023 Porche 992 GTS review. We spent many hours shooting and editing the content and we hope you find it entertaining and educational. If you do, we sure appreciate you sharing it with a friend or family member. If you disagree with anything I said, or want to add an opinion or have a question, please drop a comment below.
See you on the road!
