The Putputey ceremony is a ritual of thanksgiving and worship, marking the child's successful development and a way for the family to honor the child’s clan and ancestors.
The purpose of the ceremony is to worship the boy’s clan god or deity (the family’s ancestral god or protector spirit), ensuring the boy’s well-being and protection as he grows older. The ceremony symbolizes a transition in the child’s life, moving from infancy to early childhood.
It is also a time to express gratitude for the boy’s good health and to pray for his continued prosperity, happiness, and safe growth.

The central part of the ceremony is the gathering of family, friends, and community members, who come together to celebrate the boy’s life and offer him gifts and blessings.
