Long before being fatally wounded and transferring his soul into the body of a Good Guy doll, Charles Lee Ray aka Chucky, was better known as the Lakeshore Strangler; a serial killer who wrought havoc all over the Chicago area. But Chucky's killing spree wasn't a solo venture. He had a little help from the only woman crazy enough to stand by his side- Tiffany Valentine. This is how their relationship functions.
A WORD FROM CHRIS
While I'm sure a lot of fans were hoping for a storyline featuring the Good Guy dolls, or some flashbacks to Chucky's childhood etc, that's not what this series is about. The title says it all, it's 100% about Tiffany & Chucky and how they are as a couple.
Focusing on anything else defeats the purpose. And unlike other killer relationships such as the Joker & Harley, I firmly believe that Tiffany and Chucky actually make each other better. Are they toxic people? Absolutely. But they genuinely love each other, even if Chucky himself is reluctant to admit it, as demonstrated in some of the sequels. But at the end of the day, she's his world and vice versa. And that love had to start somewhere.
One thing that's always stood out to me in the Child's Play series is that none of the flashbacks or sequences featuring Chucky as a human show him strangling anyone. In Curse of Chucky, he uses a knife, and in the opening credits of the 1988 movie, he has a gun. Then of course as a doll, he predominantly just stabs people with the occasional death trap. But we never really see him strangle people, yet that was what he was known for.
So at what point did the Lakeshore Strangler stop strangling? Was strangling always his MO until a certain point? And you definitely don't get called a strangler if you're stabbing and shooting people. These questions needed answers. And since my story deals with Chucky's past, I might as well try and make sense of everything.
Since Chucky has been continuously portrayed as a stubborn individual, it would make sense that change of MO would come from someone of influence- Tiffany. She got him to up his game in Bride of Chucky, with little to no effort. So it made the most sense to me that her desire for Chucky to switch things up came from a place of concern, which subsequently made him an even deadlier killer.
Llenelle Gibson and Kevin Caliber brought their A games once again. Seeing them bicker as TIffany and Chucky was hilarious. Also, you might have noticed that Tiffany has her boob tattoo this time around.
This should go without saying, but the internet's gonna internet- some of you actually thought that I forgot to incorporate the tattoo in the first short. But seeing as how that was literally the day she met Chucky for the first time, I really don't understand how anyone could think she'd already have that tattoo. I mean seriously, why and how would she have a heart tattoo that says Chucky on it before ever meeting Chucky? Come on internet, you're better than that.
The entire short was filmed in 4 hours in the shipping yards of Long Beach. It's relatively quiet there past a certain hour with virtually no traffic. The perfect place to shoot without being interrupted. Also, since this series is set in the 80's, it's a lot easier to suspend disbelief without having to constantly crop out modern cars and pedestrians from my shots.
