Shrink by Lawrence Malstaf

@LawrenceMalstaf, a Belgian artist born in 1972 in Bruges, operates at the intersection of visual and theatrical arts. His work spans installation and performance art, focusing on movement, chance, order, and chaos, and creating immersive sensory spaces for individual visitors. Utilizing physics and technology as a starting point, Malstaf designs large mobile environments that involve visitors as co-actors. Known for his innovative scenography in the dance and theater world, Malstaf has received several international awards in the field of art and new technology. He currently lives and works in Tromsø, Norway, and Oudenaarde, Belgium.

One of his notable works, "Shrink," features two large transparent plastic sheets and a device that gradually removes the air between them, vacuum-packing the body (in this case, the artist himself) and suspending it vertically. Inside the installation, the artist controls the airflow, and as the pressure increases, the surface of the enclosed body gradually freezes into multiple micro-folds. Throughout the performance, the artist slowly moves and shifts positions, ranging from an almost embryonic posture to one resembling a crucified figure.

یکی از آثار برجسته او با عنوان "Shrink" شامل دو ورق پلاستیکی بزرگ شفاف است که با دستگاهی هوا از میان آن‌ها تخلیه می‌شود، بدن را در حالت خلا به صورت معلق و عمودی نگه می‌دارد. در این اجرا، هنرمند در داخل این چیدمان قرار می‌گیرد و با کنترل جریان هوا، به تدریج بدنش در اثر فشار بین ورق‌های پلاستیکی به شکل ریزچین‌های متعدد تثبیت می‌شود. حرکات آهسته و تغییر وضعیت بدن هنرمند در طول اجرا، از حالت‌های جنینی تا موقعیت‌های شبیه به بدن مصلوب متغیر است.
