Virtually new in every way, this Final Edition Phase II features bright Viper Red paint and Stone White decals which pay tribute to the Oreca cars that dominated Le Mans. Like most Vipers, it has been a carefully tended toy rather than a daily driver or even a track weapon; and as a result, has led a very easy California life which included sunny day only driving at mostly interstate level quickness.

The engine under this cars massive clamshell hood needs no introduction. Displacing 8 liters and turning a stout 9.6 to 1 compression ratio into 450 horsepower and 490 lb./ft. of torque, this 488 cubic inch aluminum beast is one of the most outrageous powerplants ever bolted between the fenders of a production car. Dodge designers knew the big mill would be the cars focal point, so they went out of their way to dress it up a bit by coating the ram tuned aluminum intake manifold and cast aluminum valve covers in a slick coat of bright red paint and menacing Viper logos. In fact, it's such an impressive piece that I'm really surprised the Mopar guys didn't put a Lexan window in the hood like Team Corvette did for their new ZR1. Everything is as clean as the day the car rolled out of the 'snake pit' in Detroit, and the engine bay is absolutely immaculate, from its dual throttle bodies all the way down to its aluminum oil pan, tubular stainless exhaust manifolds and regularly refreshed fluids.

Underneath the car, you'll find a spotless chassis, that's complete with a Borg Warner T56 6-speed manual transmission and an upgraded Dana 44 limited slip differential which carries interstate-happy 3.08 gears. Part of the Phase II Viper updates included a reinforced frame, which improves precision and addresses concerns about cowl shake, and a cast aluminum unequal length double A-arm front and rear suspension which utilizes revised geometry, updated coil overs and factory sway bars to create a more user-friendly track experience. At the center of the car, the rear-exit exhaust I mentioned earlier has been upfitted with a Borla cat-back system which sends air through smoothed intake tubes and great sounding Borla mufflers to give the big V10 a much improved roar. And at the corners of the car, four wheel disc brakes squeeze "Viper" branded dual piston calipers around 13 inch rotors. Turning the engines massive torque into melted pieces of pavement is a handsome set of 18 inch polished aluminum wheels which wear factory fresh 275/35 front and 335/30 rear Michelin Pilot Sport radials.

Like the cars which inspired it, this Viper features a fresh black interior that places an emphasis on simplicity and performance above all else. The perforated leather bucket seats are so comfortable that Dodge actually licensed their design as an office chair; and the door panels, while simple, feature both a satin finished door handles and trick emergency releases. In front of the seats, a large dash holds clear white-face gauges above an optional Alpine CD player; and between the seats, a satin finished shifter holds Final Edition exclusive red stitched shift knob above a satin finished emergency brake handle and a sequentially numbered plaque. Below the seats, Viper logo floor mats protect like-new carpet, and behind the seats, built in storage bins lock to secure small valuables. Connecting the driver to the road is a nice set of factory aluminum foot pedals which hang below a Final Edition exclusive leather wrapped and red-stitched steering wheel.
