Russia has shown that it is trying to create an alternative to the BTR-82A using existing solutions. During the Army-2023 Forum, Russia introduced the improved BTR-82A armored vehicle, unofficially named BTR-22 with many very noticeable changes both inside and out. This vehicle is positioned as a cheap solution to fill the gap when the K-17 Boomerang heavy wheeled armored personnel carrier is still undergoing testing and is not ready to participate in combat.
