Dena and I had the pleasure of being in NYCB together for 9 years, and we had a great time catching up about how she has learned to adapt during the pandemic, starting with a fun Nutcracker workshop she is offering to young dancers ages 9 and up, from December 18th-31st, 2020. Dena spent 19 years in the corps of NYCB dancing every role imaginable, and has transitioned into a full-time faculty member at the School of American Ballet, where for the last couple of years she has led the charge of auditioning and training all of the students who participate in the Nutcracker at NYCB. You can catch her in the Disney+ documentary about SAB called "En Pointe," debuting December 18th, 2020, which follows these Nutcracker kids through the entire process from September auditions to performances in December with the company. She's bringing this fun spirit to her workshop, and if you have a kid that is feeling sad to miss out on Nutcracker this year, I hope you are able to join in on her latest creative endeavor!
