Lost in a vast riverbed with no clear direction, deep sand and extreme heat push us to our limits on Somaliland’s remote coast. In the middle of the night, police escort us to a military outpost—only to wake up under strict orders to turn back and return to the capital immediately.
With nothing but a vague map and fading daylight, we leave the village and push on… straight into a vast, empty riverbed. No tracks. No clear exit. Just heat, exhaustion, and the question of which direction is right.
When things feel truly uncertain, figures appear on a distant ridge—people from a nearby village who guide us out and show us the way forward. From there, we wind through open landscapes and isolated communities, passing villages made of stick huts in the middle of nowhere, before finally finding tarmac and riding back toward Hargeisa.
