1924 Four-Circuit Laurence Cockaday Regenerative Receiver Restoration

This is not your typical Regenerative Receiver! The Four-Circuit Cockaday Regenerative Receiver was considered ahead of its time. It was so unusual that it has perplexed engineers and collectors for years. But we are going to dive into it and see what all the noise is about. Designed by Laurence Cockaday in 1924, an editor of "Popular Radio" magazine and author of books on the subject. This receiver eliminated the moving coil associated with Regenerative Receivers at that time through the addition of the "Cockaday Coil" which is the key to its unusual operation. By reversing the way regeneration is achieved, once it's set up, it eliminates the regenerative squeal and spurious transmissions associated with them. We will discuss how this is possible, and dive into the circuit after restoring an improved model Amplex Kit version of the Cockaday Receiver. Once we get it to operate, we will compare it to a commercially available Regenerative Receiver of that time period, and you can make your own judgement as to which one works better.
