Is upgrading from McIntosh's flagship MA9500 integrated amplifier to C12000 + MC611 monoblock separates worth $40,000 more? After months of listening with Wilson Audio Yvette speakers, here's the complete truth.
This isn't a theoretical comparison - I own both configurations and lived with each extensively. I'll break down exactly what the separates deliver over the integrated, when the upgrade makes sense, and who should stick with the MA9500.

💡 MY HONEST TAKE:
The MA9500 is one of the finest integrated amplifiers ever made - I could have lived with it forever. The separates do everything it does but MORE, especially with highly revealing speakers. However, this upgrade only makes sense if you have exceptional speakers, optimized front end, and can afford it without financial stress. For most systems under $20K in speakers, the MA9500 is endgame.
After comparing to other flagship separates including D'Agostino, I realized what makes McIntosh special: they deliver all the audiophile technical prowess while staying musical and non-fatiguing. You can listen for hours without brain fatigue.
