This song, written by Andraé Crouch and Luther "Mano" Hanes and first released on Crouch's 2011 The Journey album, is really my maiden voyage into contemporary gospel music. I'm a little embarrassed to share how many tears I've shed from listening to Crouch's live, YouTube performance of it with his large ensemble including strings. Crouch's performance is the epitome of greatness and the song is frankly one of the most beautiful I've ever heard.
I was recently introduced to the piece by great drummer and educator, Ron Savage (Vice President and Executive Director of Berklee College of Music), as he prepared material for our annual, February Berklee concert. After returning home, I wanted to remember it. So, although my Koentopp Chicagoan archtop guitar is out for repair, I'll leave this here. It's pretty much just how Andrae Crouch did it, which is good enough for me.
