Why does Lord Ganesha have two wives?

On this sacred day dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom, let’s remember a lesser-known story behind Him.

Did you know Ganesha always wanted to remain a brahmachari (celibate)? Yet, destiny led Him to have two wives — Riddhi and Siddhi. The story goes that when Ganesha refused Tulsi Devi’s proposal, she cursed Him to marry twice. In return, Ganesha cursed Tulsi to become the holy basil plant, worshipped in every Hindu household. Later, to fulfill that curse, He married Riddhi (prosperity) and Siddhi (spiritual power).

This Vinayaka Chaturthi, as we welcome Bappa into our homes and hearts, let’s also celebrate the deeper stories that remind us that even the toughest moments in life can turn into divine purpose. 🌸🐘
