Disassembling and reassembling my 9260 Spring Steel nodachi. The process is the same for other types of Japanese swords. One or two pins, then tapping apart and back together again. I wanted to replace the tsuba on it, so that is included in this video.
When showing a few different ways to tap the sword back together, you don't need to use all of them. Any of them should work on their own if you do it enough. When they didn't work after a couple taps each, I decided to show additional ways. Whatever method you prefer will work.
The slight rattle that I mention towards the end is side-to-side play, not top/bottom or front/back. In other words, the compression is snug, but the hole where it goes on the tang is too big; which isn't unexpected since it was purchased separately and was never fit to the sword.
