Connecting the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge with north-central Queens points of interest (including Citi Field and LaGuardia Airport), the Whitestone Expressway was originally built as the Whitestone Parkway in 1939, before being upgraded to its current expressway form.

The Van Wyck Expressway connects all the major highways and boulevards in Queens with New York's LaGuardia and JFK Airports. Running north to south through central Queens, it also forms the only interstate-standard truck route south of the Long Island Expressway. Not only is this route a vital link in the highway network, but it also is one of the busiest routes in all of the five boroughs.
