This car came to us after having a brand-new £1,000 ECU fitted — and it still wouldn’t start.
The previous garage suspected a faulty ECM due to no communication via the scan tool. They sent the original ECU off for testing, and the testing company declared it unrepairable. So, a new ECU was ordered from the main dealer — supposedly pre-programmed and plug-and-play.

But the same fault remained: no start, no comms.

They even swapped the under-bonnet fuse box, thinking it might be linked to the immobiliser. Still no joy. Eventually, the vehicle was sent to us at RMS Diagnostics.

In this video, we walk you through the full diagnostic process — from checking power and ground at the ECU to uncovering the real fault that was missed. We also test both ECUs to see if the original was truly dead, and whether the new one really was pre-programmed like the dealer claimed.
