"Mother, I want to sleep as I have to report for duty early morning" Lamnunthem Singson told mother on Wednesday night

Imphal/ Kangpokpi, Jun 13: Twenty-six-year-old Lamnunthem Singson, who was one of the two Manipuri crew members of the Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad, had told her mother on Wednesday night that she was want to sleep as she to report for duty the next day.

She was the only daughter of her widowed mother and her family members, including her three brothers, had fled their home in Imphal during the ethnic strife and are now staying at a rented home in Kangpokpi district, they said.

"We are all devastated by the news. Her mother is in deep shock and is not having meals" cousin Lun Kipgen from the victims' mother side told THE MORNING BELL.

"AIR India called us yesterday late night and said the body is yet to be identified. However there has been no survivor except for one" he said.

"She last talked with her mother on Wednesday around 11 pm. She had said she was going to London and want to sleep as she had to report for duty very early the next day (Thursday). Following which, Singson and her mother held a joint prayer over the phone" Kipgen said adding "the mother and daughter used to conduct joint prayers over the phone on daily basis just before sleeping."

"Her residence at Imphal's Old Lambulane area is located adjacent to Ist Manipur Rifles complex and the Raj Bhavan. When ethnic violence broke out in May 2023, Singson was not in Manipur but her family members along with other Kuki families shifted to Kangpokpi" Kipgen added.

The third child among four siblings, she is the only daughter and their widowed unemployed mother had struggled much raising all of them.

She is the sole earning member in the family as her eldest brother is suffering from a serious ailment while her youngest brother is quite young to apply for a job" he said.

"Her brother who is undergoing medical treatment at Guwahati is already on his way to Ahmedabad while another brother and a cousin left for Dimapur earlier this morning to go for Ahmedabad" he said.
