Architectural historian Jeff Darbee tours historic sites in Columbus, Ohio's Hilltop neighborhood to learn more about this neighborhood and the people who call it home.
We visit the site of the former Ohio Lunatic Asylum, which It's said to have been the largest building under one roof in the United States, until that title was taken by the Pentagon in 1943.
Then we visit Westgate Park to learn the history of the west side and the park as well as notable architecture in the neighborhood including the Great Western Shopping Center, which featured the Great Walk-O-Wonders and West High School. The school was built in 1929 and developed as a prototype for American high schools. It was designed by architect Howard Dwight Smith who also designed Ohio Stadium.
