Als Neubaustrecke Mattstetten-Rothrist wird die von 1996 bis 2004 erbaute Eisenbahnstrecke von Mattstetten bei Bern nach Rothrist bei Olten bezeichnet, die im Rahmen von Bahn 2000 realisiert wurde.

Bei einer betrieblichen Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 200 km/h beträgt die betriebliche Zugfolgezeit zwei Minuten.
Damit kann die Fahrzeit zwischen den wichtigsten Knotenpunkten der Schweiz wie Bern, Basel und Zürich unter eine Stunde gedrückt und somit ein integraler Taktfahrplan realisiert werden.

La nouvelle ligne Mattstetten–Rothrist est la première ligne ferroviaire suisse à dépasser les 160 km/h en exploitation régulière, reliant Mattstetten à Rothrist.
Elle constitue la majeure partie de la ligne Olten–Berne, qui représente plus de la moitié de l'axe principal reliant Zurich, la principale ville de Suisse, à Berne, sa capitale.
Inaugurée le 12 décembre 2007, elle constitue la pièce maîtresse du projet Rail 2000, une modernisation complète des chemins de fer suisses.

Longue de près de 52 kilomètres, la ligne comprend une branche.
À la jonction de Wanzwil, une ancienne ligne locale modernisée de 10 kilomètres dessert Soleure et rejoint le reste de la ligne ferroviaire à pied du Jura (vers Bienne, Neuchâtel, Yverdon et Genève).
La ligne, dont la vitesse maximale est de 200 kilomètres par heure, a permis de réduire le temps de trajet entre les principaux pôles ferroviaires suisses de Berne, Bâle et Zurich à moins d'une heure, permettant ainsi la mise en œuvre de l'horaire régulier, où les trains express et les trains d'arrêt arrivent et partent toutes les heures des gares de Berne et de Zurich, offrant ainsi de nombreuses correspondances pratiques.
Il s'agit de la plus longue ligne nouvelle construite en Suisse depuis 1926.
Les travaux ont débuté en avril 1996 et le dernier tronçon a été posé le 30 avril 2004 à Inkwil, à la frontière cantonale Berne-Soleure, sur la liaison avec Soleure.

La ligne Mattstetten–Rothrist a été la première en Suisse à mettre en service régulier le système européen de contrôle des trains (ETCS).

The Mattstetten–Rothrist new line is Switzerland's first railway to reach speeds above 160 km/h (100 mph) in regular operations, running between Mattstetten and Rothrist.
It forms most of the Olten–Bern railway line, which makes up over half of the trunk route connecting Switzerland's main city, Zürich and its capital, Bern.
The new line opened on 12 December 2007, as the centrepiece of the Rail 2000 project, a comprehensive upgrade of Swiss railways.

The line is almost 52 kilometres (32 mi) long, with one branch.
At Wanzwil junction, a 10-kilometre (6.2 mi) upgraded former local line to Solothurn connects to the rest of the Jura foot railway line (to Biel/Bienne, Neuchâtel, Yverdon and Geneva).
The line has a maximum speed of 200 kilometres per hour (120 mph) and has reduced the travel time between major Swiss hubs of Bern, Basel and Zurich to under an hour, allowing the regular interval timetable (German: Taktfahrplan) to be implemented, where both express and stopping trains on all lines arrive and leave on the hour at Bern and Zurich stations, allowing a great number of convenient connections.
The line was the longest new line built in Switzerland since 1926. Construction began in April 1996 and the last piece of rail was put into place on 30 April 2004 at the Bern-Solothurn canton border at Inkwil on the connection to Solothurn.

The Mattstetten–Rothrist was the first in Switzerland to put the European Train Control System (ETCS) into regular operation.
