I drove through Crowley, Louisiana — one of the poorest and most overlooked cities in America — to show viewers what life here really looks like. Once a proud “Rice Capital,” Crowley is now struggling with a median household income of just $26,995 and a poverty rate that’s among the highest in the state. Over 22% of the population has left since 2000, leaving behind empty homes, fading businesses, and a city fighting to survive. With crime rates higher than the U.S. average almost every year since 2007, and local schools performing below state levels, many residents face challenges most Americans never see. The median rent is just $550, but jobs are scarce and opportunities are few, creating a cycle that’s hard to break. In this video, I drive through Crowley’s neighborhoods, downtown streets, and historic areas to capture the city’s beauty, decay, and resilience. This is Crowley, Louisiana — a haunting portrait of small-town America that you won’t forget.
