Husband Wife | Skyline Rebuild - Ep. 6 - PISTON RINGS & BORE HONE

Now that the entire engine is disassembled, we can hone the cylinders and get the new piston rings gapped! Using the Flex Hone, we were able to achieve the desired cross hatch pattern compared to the near mirror finish that was on the cylinder walls before honing. Also, there were a few vertical scratches that i was able to hone away as well. Removing the old piston rings from the pistons was a fight. There was so much carbon build up on the rings that it seemed like they were welded on. Perhaps soaking the pistons in oil next time would do the trick (hopefully there isn't a next time though). As for the new piston rings, they didn't need to be gapped at all. They were within spec for tolerances so I'm skeptically surprised at how perfect they all seem to fit. Next episode, we'll start putting it all back together!
