Why did God have Israel Wipe out the Canaanites? | Bible Difficulties Ep. 3

In Deuteronomy 7, God told the Israelites to "Completely Destroy" the Canaanites. They follow through in the book of Joshua. This is a big challenge to the goodness of God, making God seem like a harsh, racist, blood-thirsty warlord.
