After looking through other fans lyrical interpretations and then working it over intensely myself on and off for 2 years, my conclusion is that this song could be about how Liz is finding musical and lyrical inspiration through another artist. This song, I feel, is connected to My Love Paramour, in that both songs are inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
Tragedienne - an actress who specializes in tragic roles.
Elizabeth sings 'you're fast for a genius.' Perhaps complimenting Shakespeare on his amazing and quick output of plays year after year.
Meridian - In Chinese medicine - each of a set of pathways in the body along which vital energy is said to flow.
Next line, 'What a genius to all' - singing of Shakespeare's influence to artists.
Then Liz sings that - 'For this song - I would favour a genius' Perhaps she wants to feel the passion of Shakespeare's genius to inspire her. Then she sings - 'Sufferings' - And then the precise age of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet.
Tragedienne - 'Tragic Actress' - Meridian - 'The flow of vital life energies.'
Musette - a bagpipe like instrument popular in the 1700's.
Shakespeare, the tragedies and the sufferings, and also musical instruments like the musette and the drums, all combine to inspire Liz and Robin in their musical quest. 'They're our genius too. They're our genius too.'
Audio is remastered by myself from my 1991 CD release of Head Over Heels.
