The RAF has fired a state-of-the-art missile from a hovering 'octocopter' drone for the first time.
The use of modified drones to drop grenades on targets in Ukraine is well document, but two British weapons firms have gone further by test firing a British Martlet missile.
These are usually shot from man-portable launchers or planes/helicopters, but this successful trial brings unmanned close air support "a step closer to reality" on the battlefield.
The missile-armed drone can neutralise enemy surface forces (infantry and tanks), launch attacks in close proximity to friendly forces, and also engage in air-to-air combat - taking out other drones and helicopters in flight.
