In Defense of STARGATE ATLANTIS's Sgt. Bates (Dial the Gate)

THE ATLANTIS EXPEDITION included a wide range of people: international scientists, diplomats, genius astrophysicists, and military personnel charged with exploring the lost city of the Ancients and keeping the civilians safe. One prominent member of the team was Sergeant Bates, a no-nonsense officer who butted heads with Dr. Weir, McKay, Teyla, and even his CO Major Sheppard.

Actor Dean Marshall sat down with Dial the Gate to talk about his character and the early days of STARGATE ATLANTIS. While he admits that Bates was a real hard-ass, Dean also defends the character's motivations – and makes a case for why the team should have listened to him more!
