MATCH PREVIEW:
The Proteas nearly pulled off a heist in the series opener, but they fell short by just 17 runs. With Temba Bavuma back at the helm, South Africa were even more dangerous in the second ODI, and they didn't commit the same mistake as in the first ODI and hunted down 9 more extra runs than they had to in Ranchi to level the series with an emphatic four-wicket win.

In the second ODI, South Africa won the toss and bowled first. Rohit Sharma and Yashavi Jaiswal got to a start, but failed to convert, with the left-arm Protean seamers again a thorn in their way.

Virat Kohli continued from where he left off in the Dhoni-land and hit back-to-back ODI hundreds, turning back the blocks. While it was RO-KO in game one, it was RU-KO in game two. Ruturaj Gaikwad made full use of the opportunity and played a fabulous knock, scoring his maiden ODI century. Both added 195 runs for the third wicket, and at one stage, India were cruising to a total beyond 380.

India were reeling at 289/5, with Washington Sundar bagging another failure. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja had to wait for a while as they were the last recognised batting pair before going after the opposition attack in the death overs. Rahul slammed yet another half-century, while Jadeja wasn't able to do what he did in the first ODI. Still, India managed to post a huge 358/5 in 50 overs.

Apart from Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi, the rest of the South African bowlers went for plenty, while Nandre Burger walked off the field after bowling 6.1 overs due to a hamstring injury and never returned to the field.

Arshdeep Singh gave India a good start, removing Quinton de Kock early. Aiden Markram and Bavuma set the platform rather than panic, as in the first ODI. Bavuma fell for 46, but Markram continued to show his class with a superb ton.

Markram then steadied the ship with Matthew Breetzke, who continued his dream ODI career with another fifty. Breetzke was joined by Dewald Brevis, who showed why he is being called Baby AB.

A century from Markram was followed by fifties from Breetzke and Brevis as the visitors made full use of India's sloppy fielding and bowling.

South Africa were made to work hard towards the end, with India reducing them to 322/6 from a comfortable position before Tony de Zorzi hobbled off the due to a hamstring issue. Eventually, Corbin Bosch remained calm and finished the job in the final over, receiving good support from Keshav Maharaj.
