This trip was a year in the making and our first time in the backcountry.
A major storm, possibly a tornado (microburst?), hit Lake Opeongo in Algonquin Provincial Park in late June 2025, causing significant damage to campsites. We ended up choosing a site on an island that was almost completely levelled. We learned a lot during our stay, consumed too many sausages and dehydrated meals, swam in the refreshing water, did a bit of fishing and had massive bonfires. All in all...a great success!
