Council Rock STAR Center Animation - Breslin Architects

The Council Rock STAR Center is a school for students with disabilities and students who face difficulties learning in a traditional, large school setting. Serving three distinct programs, STAR stands for Sloan, Twilight, and Achieve at Richboro. The floor plan is organized into two parallel bars of spaces. One bar contains the areas specific to each program while the school's shared spaces are located in a second bar. Classrooms and Project Rooms are located along the building's exterior to take advantage of natural daylighting while providing views to the adjacent park. At the core of the programs are large group spaces designed to support collaboration and strengthen relationships between students and staff. The exterior of the school is designed in response to the surrounding community and the architectural requirements of the Township's Village Overlay District. Reflecting the floor plan, the design of the program spaces responds to the traditional architecture of the town of Richboro, including the adjacent Library, School, and Senior Center with a sloped roof, brick veneer, rhythmically spaced openings and limestone accents. The architecture of the shared spaces provides a welcoming glass entrance gateway and creates the feel of a pavilion acknowledging the site's park-like setting.
