Washington Mystics forward Shakira Austin talks about being back on the court

Mystics basketball is back in D.C. 7News' Natalie Spala talks with Mystics forward Shakira Austin at Mystics media day.

After having to endure long-term injuries that kept them both sidelined for the majority of the 2024 season, Austin and guard Brittney Sykes are thankful to be back on the court "100% healthy."

"I can't express anymore how much I've learned being on the sideline," Austin said. "I was really able to change my perspective and visualize myself out there instead of kind of learning through it as I was on the court. Even when I just watch games now, it’s from a different perspective of not so much as a fan watching, but what would I have done in that situation [as a player]."
