In this presentation, we summarize the indications of embolization and cryoablation in the thyroid. Generally speaking, we prefer percutaneous cryoablation in papillary cancers and in nodules suspicious for papillary cancer. The size and number of the cancer is not very important. We prefer surgery only if there is proven metastasis to the neck lymph nodes. We also prefer cryoablation in toxic nodules and large benign nodules because cryoablation performs better than radiofrequency in such nodules.
In multinodular goiter, we generally prefer embolization over ablation.
