The 43rd annual Middle Tennessee State University Salute to Veterans and Armed Forces game and accompanying activities on Saturday (11/8/25) focused particularly on the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. Veterans and representatives of all U.S. military branches marched across the Floyd Stadium field during halftime of Saturday’s MTSU home football game, as the Band of Blue played the service anthem of each branch. Also, at a pre-game ceremony in the Keathley University Center Theater, MTSU presented its annual Joe Nunley Sr. Veteran Service Award to Marine Corps veteran Bill Kampbell, of Murfreesboro, who served in Vietnam in the 1960s and retired as a master sergeant in December 1988. The effort is the longest running commemoration of its kind in collegiate athletics. It was led by the MTSU Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center and the Blue Raider Athletics. 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the Daniels Center, the largest and most comprehensive center of its kind in the nation on a college campus.
