ALFA (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica di Automobili) was officially registered in Milan on the 24th June 1910 but its roots go back further to Bordeaux in France.
Founded in 1897 as a bicycle manufacture Axeandre Darracq switched to motorcars and opened a branch in Naples in Italy. Financial problems forced the firm to move to Portello in Milan in December 1906 but the reprieve was short lived with the firm going bust in 1909. The MD Cavaliere Ugu Stella saved the business refounding the firm as ALFA.
