Chemical-looping combustion (CLC) is a technology that creates an almost pure CO2 stream.
A CLC system typically consists of two parallel processes, the fuel reaction and the air reaction, each taking place in separate fluidized bed reactors.
A metal oxide is employed as the oxygen carrier (OC) to transport the oxygen from the air reactor to the fuel reactor.
Typical OC species include Fe2O3 / Fe3O4, CuO / Cu, Mn2O3 / Mn3O4, and NiO / Ni, which are either impregnated, extruded or freeze granulated into porous support particles composed of materials such as Al2O3, TiO2 or ZrO2.
In the fuel reactor, the oxygen carrier is used as the bed material, which is reduced by the fuel producing CO2 and H2O.
The reduced oxygen carrier is transported to the air reactor where it is reoxidized by atmospheric air and transferred back to the fuel reactor to complete the loop.
In this video, a CLC system will be simulated with Aspen Plus.
The energy source is goal.
