You won't believe just how easy it is to explain the first principles differentiation formula. All it takes is looking back at a mathematics concept you already know a lot about!
Differentiating from the first principle can be intimidating. The formula is long and scary, and there are many parts to it that seem unfamiliar.
But at its core, this formula is really just asking you to calculate the slope of a line between two points. But instead, you are finding the slope of a tangent line to the curve (also known as estimating the slope of a line at a single point!)
For this introduction to calculus video, all you need to understand is basic knowledge of slope! You will learn more about limits as you move into studies of calculus to round out your understanding. This is especially the case in the MCV4U course.
