VEX IQ’s 2025–2026 game, Mix & Match, is played on a 6 ft × 8 ft rectangular field. During each 60-second Teamwork Challenge match, two robots work together to build, stack, and score colorful Pins and Beams by placing them into Goals for points.
Gameplay Objectives
Connecting Pieces: Robots connect Pins vertically and Beams horizontally to create Stacks.
Stacking in Goals: Completed Stacks are transported and placed into matching-color Goals for additional points.
Color Variety: Stacks containing multiple colors earn bonus points, encouraging strategic organization and planning.
Scoring System
Connected Pins: 1 point each
Connected Beams: 10 points each
2-Color Stack Bonus: 5 points
3-Color Stack Bonus: 15 points
Stack placed in a matching Goal and/or connected to a Beam: 10-point bonus
Stack placed on the Standoff Goal: 10-point bonus
Cleared Starting Pin: 2 points each
Robot in contact with Scoring Objects at match end: 2 points per robot
Additional Rules & Challenges
Robot Skills Challenge: Teams compete individually in Driving Skills Matches (driver-controlled) and Autonomous Coding Skills Matches (fully autonomous).
Stack Requirements: All Stacks must be free-standing and fully supported to score.
Strategic Play: Success depends on efficient piece handling, color management, teamwork, and precise placement to maximize scoring opportunities.
