Should I tell him I love him? Should I tell him how important he is to me?
I am often asked for relationship advice in terms of telling someone that you love them, and if there is such thing as saying “I love you” too early. That is why I wanted to share two tips with you on the subject that I’ve developed as a result of coaching tens of thousands of people across the globe.
1. Don’t say it - Show it!
Communication is hard because we don’t know how to express our thoughts and feelings. We’ve grown up with certain notions that have proven to be unhelpful!
I don’t like to make generalizations, especially because times have changed AND I have worked with many women who exhibit behavior that has been thought of as very “masculine,” men who exhibit “feminine” behavior, and homosexual couples who have the same exact issues as heterosexual couples. So I want to clarify that this has nothing to do with your sex or your sexual preference - it’s about your actions.
That, the majority of men I’ve worked with communicate love via actions instead of words.
So if you’ve been thinking about saying I love you, I will always encourage you to SHOW him instead! This will show him that you are different from other women, that you understand him, and that you know what he wants. Most of the time when we express love, we are expressing the kind of love that we want to receive. So think about his love language, and how you can communicate love to him through your gestures and actions.
If you can change the way you love your man, your relationship will transform and become better than ever before.
2. Be specific
When you do tell him, “I love you,” tell him exactly what you love about him. Don’t let it be something general and impersonal. Tell him that you love the way he smiles, that you love how much time he spends with his little sister and how happy that her, tell him that you love his dedication to his job…
Telling him you love him is great, but giving him value is even stronger. Give him a personal compliment that makes him proud and makes him feel special.
This is what men want!
