Mixing various era parts together to create a bike with good gearing, shifting, and tire clearance has become an art of sorts. With Rivendell down tube shifters and a 9 speed cassette I have found decent shifting with the rear derailleur, but with the Velo Orange crankset and 46-30 chain rings finding a good front derailleur hasn't been as seamless. Today I wanted to try the new Shimano Ultegra 11 speed front derailleur to see if it might work.
